Breast Cancer Awareness Month may be over, but MSU Colleges Against Cancer is still spreading awareness. The group got some attention on campus Tuesday, Oct. 14, when an estimated 1,500 students participated in Wear Pink Day to promote breast Cancer awareness.
The student organization also gave out pink ribbons and postcards to send to remind family and friends to get mammograms behind Wells Hall Thursday. A line of rainbow colored bras hung on a clothesline strung between trees behind the CAC table.
“Mammograms are the best way to detect breast cancer,” Kylie Jusick, CAC officer, said. “The bras are really getting people’s attention to our table.”
Marissa Cumbers, CAC president, said, “It’s really important that young girls start to do self-breast examinations. Colleges Against Cancer is trying to get MSU students to be aware of their risks.”
CAC works with The American Cancer Society to spread awareness and promote cancer education and early detection.
“I want this to start the talk on campus,” said Jusick. “As college students we don’t really realize sitting in a big lecture there are probably three people who have or had cancer. It’s happening to our generation.”
