ROB COUCH– In correlation with my recent article on affirmative action, I conducted a survey in order to see how college students truly viewed racial issues and the necessity of affirmative action. I made the survey on surveymonkey.com and posted the link on a facebook event page. In all, 63 people responded. Here are the questions and each one’s results:
1) What statement best summarizes your opinion on racism in America today?
a) “Racism in no longer an issue in American society. We are free of racism.” 0%
b) “Racism is extremely rare and hardly an issue, if at all.” 11.7%
c) “We have progressed as a whole but still have far to go.” 80%
d) “Racism is still very prevalent today and I see it on a daily basis.” 8.3%
2) Are you for or against the state of Michigan’s ban on affirmative action practices in 2006?
a) FOR the ban on affirmative action 71.4%
b) AGAINST the ban on affirmative action 28.6%
3) Do you think Barack Obama’s race helped, hurt, or didn’t affect his candidacy for president?
a) HELPED his candidacy 66.1%
b) HURT his candidacy 3.4%

4) Where do you fall on the political spectrum?
