Sample pitch – Lansing as a Promise Zone

There was a public hearing today to discuss the possibility of Lansing becoming of the state’s first “Promise Zones.” This would provide Lansing students with scholarships for two-year colleges. The money for the scholarships would come from property taxes as well as fundraising.

Since I’m not able to attend the meeting today, I’d cover continuing developments on approval of the plan, what other cities are being considered to become Promise Zones, and if possible, what was discussed or decided at the board meeting if I was able to contact school district officials. I’d contact Lansing Superintendent Stephen Grimm, the education liaison in the governor’s office, and those involved with the similar program that is currently running in Kalamazoo.
