There are nearly 5,400 members of the Michigan FFA. Of these members, 1,314 were registered to attend the convention March 11-13.
Members from across the state, from Stephenson to Blissfield, came to the convention for several reasons. Some came to compete in career development events, some for recognition in their supervised agricultural experiences. Some members attended the convention to run for state officer positions, while others looked forward to attending to vote for their favorite state officer candidates.
State officers spend one year representing their state. Responsibilities include making chapter visits, encouraging chapter officers in their leadership roles at regional camps, planning an exciting state convention and working with legislators of the state government.
State President Dustin Baker talked about the year coming to a close. He said, “It is kind of bittersweet – it is kind of sad, but I know that I took advantage of everything that I could as an officer.”
